Lentil pottage

Folk belief says, the lentil eaten (pottage, soup, or any other way you prepare it) during the first day of the New Year brings you fortune and richness for the whole year. Let’s see!

Ingredients:

  • 500g lentil
  • salt
  • 2-3 pcs bayleaf
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 2 dl sour cream
  • vinegar

Soak the lentil for 2-3 hours, so later it is going to soften easier, then pour off the water. For cooking, just add enough water to see the lentil under. Boil it, but could be better for your stomach if you completely pour off and change this water and just put your spices into the 2nd set of water. Add salt, bay leaf, red onion and two cloves of garlic as is. Cook it for an hour or mid fire. Once softened, thicken with roux. Boil just a bit, add sour cream and some vinegar (up to you but ~a coffee spoon).
